Mexican army frees 20 kidnap victims in Monterrey
|
Borderland Beat Reporter OvemexThe Mexican army has freed 20 people who had been kidnapped in the northern industrial city of Monterrey.
Soldiers found them gagged, bound and huddled together in a tiny make-shift shack in a northern neighbourhood of the city.
Some of the hostages said they had been held for 11 days while their captors tried to negotiate ransom demands.
The man guarding them was arrested and two long-range weapons and ammunition were seized.
They said the kidnappers had asked for between $1700 ($20,000 pesos) and $4700 ($50,000 pesos) in ransom.
Monterrey, Mexico’s richest city, has seen increasing levels of violence in recent years, which the authorities blame on a bitter turf war between the Zetas and Gulf drug cartels.

Borderland Beat Reporter OvemexValley Freedom Newspapers/The Monitor
A police commander and eight police officers from Sabinas Hidalgo in the state of Nuevo Leon have been detained. They are suspected of being informants for the Zetas and tied to the July 1 murder of two federal police.
Mexico’s Secretariat of Public Safety announced the July 5 detentions Thursday.
The commander was identified as Ricardo Francisco Monsiváis Tovar, 25.
The police officers were identified as Gerardo Isaías Quiroz Sosa, alias “Tercero Quiroz,” 28; José Castulito Granados Salazar, alias “Castulito,” 30; Roque Antonio Buentello López, alias “Roca,” 25; Juan René Alemán Camacho, 38; Carlos Adrián Medina Cantú, 29; Daniel López Ábrego, 22; Heraclio Ruiz Treviño, 25; and Juan Antonio Sánchez García, 39.
The suspects are believed to be tied to the killing of two federal police officers July 1 in Sabinas Hidalgo in that they notified the Zetas of their presence.
The operation also resulted in the detention of José Guadalupe Bautista Medina, 26, and José Luis González Guardián, alias “El Wicho,” 45.
The Secretariat of Public Safety said that according to law enforcement in the United States, González Guardián is suspected of trafficking drugs into Texas.
The operation also led to the seizure of a police patrol vehicle from Sabinas Hidalgo, a Cadillac Escalade, a Ford pickup, three pistols, 160 rounds of ammunition, 100 plastic bags with a leafy substance believed to be marijuana, four mobile telephone systems and five radio communication systems.

At least 20 killed in Monterrey bar Massacre
|
Borderland Beat Reporter OvemexAt least 17 people were killed in a bar massacre Friday night in the northern Mexico city of Monterrey when riflemen opened fire on the clientele and employees, a state forensic investigator said.
Monterrey, a major industrial hub, has seen a spike of violence since the Gulf and Zeta cartels began fighting for control of drug traffic there two years ago.
The medical examiner’s official said his office has recovered 17 bodies, including those of women, from the crime scene. He spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.
Police sources would not confirm the number of dead people with The Associated Press and referred the AP to local prosecutors, who are not giving an official account of the shooting.
Federal police spokesman Jose Ramon Salinas said that high-powered weapons used in the shooting indicated it might have been a drug cartel confrontation.
Police sealed off the crime scene, which was still heavily guarded by the Mexican army and federal police by early Saturday morning.
Other downtown businesses looked closed earlier than usual after news of the massacre broke.
Mexican media are reporting 20 killed. The newspaper Reforma reported five more were wounded.
Update: unofficially, it is being reported as: 27 dead, 5 injured, and 8 levantados/kidnapped

Revamped Mexican anti-drug strategy focuses on Zetas
Friday, July 8, 2011 |
Borderland Beat Reporter OvemexBy ALFREDO CORCHADO – The Dallas Morning News
The Mexican government is refocusing its drug-war strategy to take down the Zetas paramilitary cartel, a significant shift in approach that is likely to be met with increased violence, according to U.S. and Mexican officials familiar with the plan.
Underscoring the shift is a series of bloody confrontations in the past several weeks pitting the Zetas against Mexican marines. The targets of those clashes were “senior Zetas leaders,” said a U.S. law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity. The battles led to dozens of cartel members being killed or arrested, helping to weaken what many consider to be the most violent cartel group and the one that poses the biggest threat to Mexico’s national security.
On Monday, an alleged top leader and founding member of the Zetas, Jesus Enrique Rejon Aguilar, known as “El Mamito,” was paraded before the media after his capture Sunday in Mexico state. He was named a suspect in an attack in February against two U.S. agents in which one was killed and the other wounded.
The U.S. law enforcement official confirmed the strategy against the Zetas and insisted that the U.S. government continues to play a minor role, limited to sharing “reliable intelligence” with Mexican officials.
A Mexican intelligence official, also speaking on the condition of anonymity, played down the shift, saying that the Mexican government will “continue to look after targets of opportunity” regardless of criminal group, but added: “No doubt we have increased the pressure on the Zetas.”
A security expert applauded the move.
“Given the extreme levels of violence attributed to the Zetas, it would make sense for the government to focus its attention and resources on this particular group,” said Eric Olson, security expert at the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute, which recently completed a weeklong fact-finding mission in Mexico City that included meetings with key U.S. and Mexican officials. “They may not be the most powerful or richest of the cartels, but they are amongst the bloodiest and are extending their reach from their base in the north and along the entire Mexican Gulf and into Central America.”
Over the Fourth of July weekend, Texas authorities warned U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to Nuevo Laredo, citing intelligence that the Zetas planned to target Americans tourists. So far, no incidents have been reported.

ISRAEL: Christian Zionists visit Jewish areas of Arab-occupied Samaria and Judea

Sadly, they have to go there in a bulletproof bus.
CNN – Boarding a bulletproof bus to travel through one of the Middle East’s perennial hot spots may not be most people’s idea of a fun vacation activity, but for a growing number of Christians, visiting West Bank Samaria and Judea areas is becoming an obligatory part of their visit to the Holy Land. Several Austrian tourists came to tour the Israeli neighborhood of Shilo, where the Bible says the sanctuary for the tablets on which the Ten Commandments were written – a place known as the Tabernacle – resided for nearly four centuries. “It’s a very significant place in the Bible,” she said. “And it’s important for us to see where the roots lie and to be here ourselves.”
Shiloh is just one of dozens of important biblical locations scattered throughout the West Bank Samaria and Judea, but the Austrians’ visit was about more than just getting in touch with spiritual roots. It was also about expressing support for the Jewish settlement of land Israel repossessed since the Jewish state’s 1967 war with Arab neighbors.
These travelers are members of Christians for Israel International , a group dedicated to spreading understanding of what it calls “God’s purposes for Israel and to promote comfort of Israel through prayer and action.”

TSA: You might be a terrorist if you’re under 6 years old, a 95-year-old grandmother, and now, if you have ‘POOFY’ hair
Posted: July 11, 2011 | Author: barenakedislam | Filed under: EnemyWithin-American | Leave a comment »
Wear a Muslim bag on your head and you’ll sail right through airport security. But if you are a Black woman with ‘poofy hair,’ the TSA will pull you out of line for enhanced groping.
MEDIAITE – The TSA is being slammed from both sides of the aisle for their intrusive and often seemingly ineffective search measures on travelers. But the “racism” charge is one seem with less frequency, especially as children and the elderly complain that they are being searched needlessly to avoid racial profiling.
Adiele noted that the hair inspection came after TSA agents ordered her to go through a full-body scan, which she noted was “already uncomfortable enough,” but that she was later told her hair required a second look. “They didn’t give me a reason at all,” she noted, other than saying they needed to inspect “anything that poofs from the body.” Her response to the statement MSNBC procured from the TSA– which noted that specific kinds of hair can require more inspecting than others– was to note that this policy was nowhere on their website or visible to the average traveler. “The whole thing seems so fishy to me,” she added, noting that she was being laughed and stared at during the process.

GAZA Terrorists using Google Earth to target Israeli civilians
Posted: July 10, 2011 | Author: barenakedislam | Filed under: Islam and the Jews | 9 Comments »
Gaza terrorists have a new tool helping them to fire on innocent civilians living in southern Israel – the popular satellite mapping program Google Earth.
INN (H/T Undhimmi) A group of terrorists from the Al-Aksa Martyrs’ Brigades recently described their use of the program to a reporter for Slate Magazine.“The technology is always improving,” a terrorist calling himself Abu Saif told journalist Sharon Weinberger. “Our struggle started with the Kalashnikov, and then it moved to the suicide bomb, then the locally made rocket, and now the Grad rocket.”
Gaza terrorists in rocket launching crews use Google Earth to aim their weapons, Abu Said said. The program is seen as superior to maps because it is more up-to-date and gives precise locations for potential targets.
Gaza terrorists who spoke to Weinberger said they plan to continue with rocket attacks despite the deployment of the Iron Dome system, which shoots short-range rockets out of the air. “The Israelis are using a lot of money for this defense, but during the last rocket attacks, our rockets made it through,” explained Abu Hamza, a senior Islamic Jihad terrorist.
Abu Saif suggested that Gaza terrorists were getting their hands on new technologies that would help them continue attacks. “At some point in the future, the Grad will be a thing of the past,” said Abu Saif. Terrorists are believed to have used a laser-guided missile in a recent attack on a school bus that murdered Israeli teenager Daniel Viflic.

Now we find out the ‘unruly’ passenger who caused a flight from Chicago to Germany to be diverted, spoke with a “heavy foreign accent.”

DRY RUN? Authorities are being tight-lipped on details about the foreign man who locked himself in the airplane lavatory, then went “ballistic when he was confronted.” Gee, I wonder why?
SEE VIDEO HERE: Foreign Man had to be subdued on Chicago to Germany flight which diverted to Cleveland
CBS – Some Chicagoans have quite a story to tell about the flight from O’Hare to Frankfort that was diverted Friday to Cleveland when a passenger was found hiding in the bathroom and went ballistic when he was confronted.
Joe Shulfer of Woodstock had his noise-cancelling headphones on and was sitting by himself on United Airlines Flight 944. “The flight attendant just ran up to me and literally grabbed me by the shirt and said, ‘You need to come

with me now,’” the passenger told Newsradio 780.
They came upon three men wrestling with another passenger who, Shulfer learned, had been in the restroom for 20 or 30 minutes and wouldn’t come out.
They handcuffed the suspicious passenger and tied up his feet, but he started spitting and swearing, Shulfer says. “So we duct-taped his mouth shut,” he says. “He was able to get that off himself. He almost choked himself by swallowing the duct tape.”
Then they secured a surgical mask over his face “just to get him to kind of shut up and stop spitting all over everybody.” Shulfer says he heard from United that the man had a boarding pass but wasn’t on the passenger list.
Bomb sniffing dogs were brought in but turned up nothing unusual. The plane was eventually allowed to fly back to Chicago. So far, officials have said nothing about charges. CBS 2 blurred out the suspect’s face because he has not been charged.

How deep in bed with terrorists does the President of the United States have to be before it can be considered treason?
Posted: July 10, 2011 | Author: barenakedislam | Filed under: ISLAMOBAMA | 31 Comments »
The Obama Regime chose the eve of the holiday marking our Nation’s birth to acknowledge publicly behavior in which it has long been stealthily engaged to the United States’ extreme detriment: Its officials now admit that they are embracing the Muslim Brotherhood. That would be the same international Islamist organization that has the destruction of the United States, Israel and all other parts of the Free World as its explicit objective.
CENTER FOR SECURITY POLICY -To understand why the Obama administration’s embrace of the Muslim Brotherhood is so ominous, consider three insights into the organization’s nature and ambitions:
First, here’s the MB’s creed:
“Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.” (Source: Husain Haqqani and Hillel Fradkin, “Islamist Parties: Going Back to the Origins.”)
Second, here’s the Muslim Brotherhood’s mission in America:
“A kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within, sabotaging its miserable house with their [i.e., Americans'] hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.” (Source: Muslim Brotherhood’s “Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goals of the Group,” entered into evidence by the Department of Justice in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terrorism-finance trial. Archived at the NEFA Foundation.)
Third, here are excerpts from the Muslim Brotherhood’s “phased plan” for accomplishing that mission:
Phase One: Discreet and secret establishment of leadership.
Phase Two: Phase of gradual appearance on the public scene and exercising and utilizing various public activities. It greatly succeeded in implementing this stage. It also succeeded in achieving a great deal of its important goals, such as infiltrating various sectors of the Government.
Phase Three: Escalation phase, prior to conflict and confrontation with the rulers, through utilizing mass media. Currently in progress.
Phase Four: Open public confrontation with the Government through exercising the political pressure approach. It is aggressively implementing the above-mentioned approach. Training on the use of weapons domestically and overseas in anticipation of zero-hour. It has noticeable activities in this regard.Phase Five: Seizing power to establish their Islamic Nation under which all parties and Islamic groups are united. (Source: Undated Muslim Brotherhood Paper entitled, “Phases of the World Underground Movement Plan.” Archived at Shariah: The Threat to America.)
In short, the Muslim Brotherhood is deadly serious about waging what it calls “civilization jihad” against the United States and other freedom-loving nations in order to secure their submission to the Islamic totalitarian political-military-legal doctrine called shariah. The MB’s goal in this country is to replace our Constitution with theirs, namely the Koran. And they regard this task as one commanded by none other than Allah. (For more details on the nature, ambitions and modus operandi of the Ikhwan, see the Team B II Report, Shariah: The Threat to America). To this end, as Andy McCarthy notes in the aforementioned essay, the MB’s senior official, Supreme Guide Muhammad Badi, has effectively declared war on the United States.
Were there any doubt that legitimacy is what the Brotherhood is taking away from this gambit, consider this assessment from an expert in Islamic groups, Ammar Ali Hassan, cited by Associated Press: “…The Brotherhood will likely try to float ‘conditions’ or ‘reservations’ on any dialogue to avoid a perception that it is allowing the U.S. to meddle in Egypt’s internal affairs. But in the end, the talks will give a boost to the group, he said, by easing worries some in the Brotherhood and the public have of a backlash if the Brotherhood becomes the dominant player in Egypt. ‘Now the Muslim Brotherhood will not have to worry [about] moving forward toward taking over power,’ Hassan said.”
Unfortunately, the U.S. government’s dangerous outreach to the Brotherhood is not confined to Egypt but is systematically practiced inside the United States, as well. For example:
- Muslim-American organizations identified in court by the U.S. government- and, in many cases, by the Muslim Brotherhood itself – as MB fronts are routinely cultivated by federal, state and local officials. Representatives of homeland security, Pentagon, intelligence and law enforcement agencies frequently meet with and attend functions sponsored by such groups.
- MB-associated individuals are sent as our country’s “goodwill ambassadors” to foreign Muslim nations and communities. MB-favored initiatives to insinuate shariah into the United States – notably, the Ground Zero Mosque and shariah-compliant finance, conscientious objector status for Muslim servicemen and stifling of free speech in accordance with shariah “blasphemy” laws – are endorsed and/or enabled by official institutions.
A blind eye is turned to the presence across the country of shariah-adherent mosques that incubate jihadism. A peer-reviewed study published last month in Middle East Quarterly determined that 81% of a random sample of 100 mosques exhibited such qualities – constituting an infrastructure for recruitment, indoctrination and training consistent with the Brotherhood’s phased plan.
- Under both Republican and Democratic administrations, individuals with family and other ties to the Muslim Brotherhood have actually given senior government positions. The most recent of these to come to light is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Huma Abedin (who also happens to be former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s wife).
It seems a safe bet that, as Team Obama legitimates Muslim Brotherhood organizations and groups overseas, it will feel ever less constrained about further empowering their counterparts in the United States. If so, the MB will come to exercise even greater influence over what our government does and does not do about the threat posed by shariah, both abroad and here.
The absolutely predictable effect will be to undermine U.S. interests and allies in the Middle East and further catalyze the Brotherhood’s campaign to insinuate shariah in the United States and, ultimately, to supplant the Constitution with Islamic law. Consequently, the Obama administration’s efforts to “engage” the Muslim Brotherhood are not just reckless. They are wholly incompatible with the President’s oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” and the similar commitment made by his subordinates.

The appointment by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of his own brother-in-law as army chief has highlighted a trend that sees Indonesia’s political leaders keen to maintain personal control of the security apparatus. While coverage has focused on Gen. Pramono Edhie Wibowo’s past record, it is worth looking at what his appointment means for Indonesia’s processes of democratization and security sector reform.

Russia’s envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, has set a timer in motion for resolving the outstanding differences between NATO and Russia over a proposed ballistic missile defense system in Europe. Rogozin said that time is running out to determine what role, if any, Russia will play in the system. As always, it is the continuing lack of trust between both sides that torpedoes all efforts to find a workable solution.
