13.   An unusual economy?


Americans today are alarmed that unemployment has stayed around 9 percent for so long. But such unemployment rates have been common for years in Western European welfare states that have followed policies similar to policies being followed currently by the Obama administration.

11.   A large gathering of conservative Presbyterians met recently to weigh their options in the wake of their denomination’s recently liberalized ordination standards.


Tooley also says history shows predictable outcomes when denominations embrace liberal positions on social issues. “[For] liberal mainline denominations that have jumped off the cliff on sexuality issues … the consequence has always been the same: accelerated membership decline and some form of schism,” he warns.

More than 830 U.S. congregations were represented in Minneapolis for the inaugural Gathering of The Fellowship of Presbyterians. The group acknowledges that the PC(USA) has been in “steady decline” over the past 45 years, dwindling to “literally half the size of a generation ago.”
