As a socialist tide sweeps the Latin American continent, three outstanding leaders of the New Left have emerged, the power trio of Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, Bolivia’s Evo Morales and Rafael Correa in Ecuador.

They promote and implement 21st century socialism in their respective countries which show quite a few common traits, in spite of economic, geographic, historic and political differences.  All three presidents were elected with an absolute majority of votes and hold majorities in congress which facilitates change and reforms. Their parties have become mass movements supporting them.

Hugo Chavez is the leader of PSUV (Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela), Evo Morales heads MAS (Movimiento al Socialismo) in Bolivia, and Rafael Correa’s party in Ecuador is Allianza Pais (Patria Altiva y Soberana).  In their politics, the three leaders encourage social programs, grassroots and community projects, popular mobilization and direct participation on a mass scale.

Twenty-first century socialism in Latin America is founded on strong moral and ethical principles such as fraternity and solidarity. One of Hugo Chavez’s favorite sayings is,”The world needs a new moral architecture.”

Rafael Correa said (2009), “Socialism will continue. The Ecuadorian people voted for that. We are going to emphasize this fight for social justice, for regional justice … and human work over capital. Nobody is in any doubt that our preferential option is for the poorest people, we are here because of them.”

Socialism in Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela features a strong patriotic component, inspired by the historical experience of fighting for liberty against the Spanish invaders. Simon Bolivar – El Libertador – has become a common national symbol.

Remembering the battles against Spanish colonialism is deeply rooted in the nations of Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela. Especially the indigenous movements see themselves as inheritors of their ancestors’ struggles for freedom from the yoke of Spanish occupation and exploitation.

It is no coincidence that the three presidents have indigenous roots. Hugo Chavez, born July 28, 1954 into a working class family in Sabaneta, Venezuela, is of Amerindian and Afro-Venezuelan origin. As president, he has introduced many programs to involve the indigenous population in Venezuelan politics. Besides many small tribes, the main indigenous populations are the Wayuu in the west, the Warao in the Orinoco Delta and the Pemon in the southern grasslands, known as La Gran Sabana.

Evo Morales, born October 26, 1959 in Isallawi, Bolivia, stems from a working class Aymara family. When he was sworn in as president in 2006. He attended an Aymara ceremony at Tiwonaku before a crowd of thousands of Aymara people, a highly symbolic ritual.

The Aymara have been living for over 2.000 years in the part of the Andes which is called Bolivia today. Their capital city was Tiwanaku, founded in 1,500 BC, now a renowned archeological site. Aymara and Quechua are official languages in Bolivia besides Spanish. Thirty percent of the Bolivian population is Quechua-speaking, 25% is Aymara-speaking. 2.5 million Quechua and 2 million Aymara live in Bolivia.

Rafael Correa, born April 6, 1963 into a working class family of Guyaquil, Ecuador, grew up learning Quechua and communicates with Ecuador’s indigenous population in their own language.

Socialism in Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela is based on the indigenous heritage of collectivism. Private property was unknown, in some instances property inheritance was forbidden. The indigenous population shared a communitarian ideal.

Most natural resources have been nationalized: oil, gas and lithium. Venezuela owns the largest oil reserves worldwide, while Bolivia’s position is strengthened by the knowledge that its hydrocarbon assets are highly valued. Bolivia has the second largest natural gas reserves in Latin America and 5.4 million cubic tonnes of lithium, which represents about 70% of the world’s reserves. Ecuador has also nationalized its oil reserves.

Chavez, Morales and Correa are charismatic leaders who have gained global admiration and support. They favor a multi-polar world, anti-imperialism and anti-capitalism. They share strong ties to other Latin American countries, Cuba, China, Russia and Iran.

Latin American strength is founded on unification. Chavez, Morales and Correa are fiery champions of ALBA (Alliance for the Peoples of our America), UNASUR (Union of South American Nations) and the newly created CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States). Latin America has its own virtual currency, the SUCRE, and its own regional bank, BANCO DEL SUR.

With Chavez, Morales and Correa as champions of unification, the continent may well be on its way to become “The United States of Latin America” in the near future.

“Iran’s Latin America Ties Pose Threat to US”

Members of a U.S. congressional panel expressed concern Thursday that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s ties to several Latin American leaders could pose a threat to U.S. national security. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs that senior Iranian officials are “now more willing to conduct an attack in the United States.“  He said Iran is trying to penetrate and engage in the Western Hemisphere.

The chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, said some people might question whether the Iranian-Latin American connection is a threat, but she said there is cause for concern.

“Iran’s [President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad recently returned from his ‘Tour of Tyrants’ trip to visit Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Ecuador.  Media reports have indicated an increased presence of Iran’s Quds Force in these countries and offices of Iran’s intelligence services surfacing throughout the region,” said Ros-Lehtinen. “The fact that the military arm of a state-sponsor of terrorism has its operatives within multiple countries in our hemisphere is certainly cause for alarm and merits congressional focus.“

Obama administration officials say the United States is keeping a close watch on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s ties to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. During Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to Venezuela, he and Chavez praised each other and joked about concerns in the West about Iran’s relations with Latin America.

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta believes that Israel is likely to strike Iran in the coming months, Washington Post columnist David Ignatius said Thursday.

“Panetta believes there is strong likelihood that Israel will strike Iran in April, May or June – before Iran enters what Israelis described as a “zone of immunity” to commence building a nuclear bomb,” Ignatius wrote.

Asked by journalists whether he disputes the report, Panetta said, “No, I’m just not commenting.”

He added, “What I think and what I view, I consider that to be an area that belongs to me and nobody else.”

He noted that Israel has stated publicly that it is considering military action against Iran, adding that US has “indicated our concerns.”

Panetta, along with US President Barack Obama warned Israeli officials against opting for a military offensive in Iran, saying it would jeopardize the international sanctions program and other non-military efforts to stop Iran from crossing the nuclear “red line.”

Even so, Ignatius claimed that senior officials in the Obama administration have yet to decide how to respond if an Israeli military strike materializes.

The columnist states that “Israeli leaders are said to accept, and even welcome, the prospect of going it alone and demonstrating their resolve at a time when their security is undermined by the ‘Arab Spring’.”

Another strike in a few years

The Israeli scenario, according to Ignatius, is a five day limited offensive, followed by a UN-brokered ceasefire. The relatively light damage that is expected to be inflicted on Iranian nuclear facilities will require Israel to stage another offensive a few years down the line.

Ignatius notes that American officials see two possible options to dissuade Israel from attacking: Serious talks with Iran – including full access and supervision over its nuclear program – or increased US covert operations that will undermine the nuclear program to the extent that Israel is convinced an attack is no longer necessary.

However, such options might be in vein because Prime Minister Netanyahu has already made a decision to attack in the next six months, Ignatius claims.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday said that if sanctions are unsuccessful in compelling Iran to abandon its nuclear program, the international community will have to examine other options.

“There is a global understanding that if the sanctions don’t achieve the coveted goal of stopping the Iranian military nuclear program, an operation would have to be considered,” he said at the Herzliya Conference.

When should names on public rolls be kept secret?

Judging by the ACLU’s double standard, secrecy is warranted if exposure might reveal voter fraud.  On the other hand, if exposure puts marriage supporters at risk for harassment by radical activists…well, then, that’s okay.

Unlike its apparent indifference to abuses of pro-marriage donors exposed in California in 2008, the ACLU pressured a Wisconsin agency not to create an online database to verify two million signatures for recalling Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, and four Republican state senators.  The ACLU cites possible threats to victims of domestic violence.  This might wash, except that the ACLU is also suing Wisconsin over its photo ID law that curbs voter fraud.

“The GAB [Government Accountability Board] is under no obligation to make it easier for stalkers to find their victims by having a searchable database online,” ACLU of Wisconsin spokesman Chris Ahmuty said, according to ABC news affiliate WISN.

On Tuesday, the GAB posted the petitions online without a searchable database and not in alphabetical order, so someone looking for a particular name would have to read through hundreds of thousands of entries.  The state GOP, which has until Feb. 26 to challenge the signatures, says it has more than 2,000 volunteers to comb through them looking for fraud.

The ACLU was not always so solicitous of the privacy of petition-signers.

In 2008, the names and addresses of people who gave $100 or more to California’s Proposition 8 constitutional marriage amendment campaign were posted by Prop. 8 opponents on websites, complete with marked Google maps, as an invitation to harass them.

STUTTGART, Germany — As part of a plan to consolidate its air command headquarters, NATO officials have decided to make Ramstein Air Base the hub for alliance missions that range from NATO’s air police operations to a growing missile defense program, according Headquarters Allied Air Command Ramstein.

Currently, NATO has two air command headquarters: Ramstein Air Base in the north and a southern headquarters in Izmir, Turkey.

“That means you will now only have one air command headquarters left,” said Manfred Reudenbach, a spokesman for the NATO air command mission.

The consolidation is part of NATO’s ongoing reorganization, which is aimed at finding efficiencies. While NATO now has 400 personnel at Ramstein, the move is expected to increase that number to 500, Reudenbach said.

The move is expected to begin sometime this year, and will likely continue into 2013.

“They will include staff to deal specifically with missile defense,” Reudenbach said. “What you have is the command and control for missile defense forces.”

However, with just one headquarters, the total number of personnel within the air command headquarters will shrink by about 250 people, he said.

At the moment, NATO missile defense is at an “interim capability” focused on protecting forward-deployed troops, according to Reudenbach.

“In the future, we’re also going to have protection of alliance territories. It’s still a long way to go,” he said.

The U.S. also is pursuing missile defense in Europe, with a plan to coordinate those efforts with NATO’s.

Last month, the U.S. Army activated a command-level air and missile defense unit at Rhine Ordnance Barracks, just a few miles east of Ramstein.

In October, U.S. officials announced plans to send four U.S. Navy ships to Naval Station Rota, Spain, beginning in 2013 as part of the missile defense system. The U.S. also is expected to spend about $400 million as part of a plan to send a ground-based radar system to Romania by 2015. Interceptors also are expected to be set up in Poland by 2018.

Tedium alert, but you should endure watching this to see how the opposition thinks.

In this 33-minute video, Communist Party USA Chair Sam Webb presents “Foundations of Marxist methodology: How to make change and win millions to socialism in the American political, social and economic framework.”

Recorded during a 2011 seminar in Los Angeles on Marxism, this “video is an excellent tool for CPUSA and YCL members, friends and collectives to discuss and deepen understanding of Marxist methodology.”

Pretty mundane presentation style, but Sam Webb makes it very clear that the party continues to see Barack Obama and the Democrats as allies on the road to socialism.

  It still amazes me that 75-80% of the public still does not fully realize that Obama is an agent of these Marxists. All the evidence is out there but as long as the MSM covers it, most people are just too dumb and/or lazy to find out for themselves.

  We are sunk in the long run as even the Republicans are on the most part progressive these days. My latest post on my blog explains my reasoning. Neverthless, we must not go down without a fight.

The war may begin when Israel strikes “nuclear” objects in Iran. The United States will support the attack. If it happens, the new large-scale war will become inevitable. Iran is not Libya, and not even Iraq.  In addition, anti-Iranian enemies have failed to build the “axis of hatred” around Iran. Therefore, many countries in the region will support Iran either directly or by implication. In particular, it goes about China. Chinese President Hu Jintao stated that if the USA or any other country attacked Iran, China would take responsive measures immediately. As for Moscow, sources at Russia’s Defense Ministry said that the forces in the region had already been mobilized in case of a possible war.

Many Iranians come to Armenia, a republic of the former Soviet Union, for weekends. Women feel more liberated there, whereas men can drink cognac freely. The times, when Iran was separated from the Caucasus with the iron curtain of the Soviet Union, have become a thing of the past. Nowadays, for many residents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Iran is not an exotic state at all.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Embassy in Mexico says two Americans have been slain outside the northern industrial city of Monterrey, an area plagued by drug violence.

It identifies them as John and Wanda Casias.

The embassy says the former Amarillo, Texas, couple’s family has been notified and it is providing relatives consular services.

The embassy hasn’t confirmed reports that the killing happened Tuesday. Its statement provides no other details.

Valerie Alirez in Greeley, Colo., is John Casias’ eldest child.

She says he and his wife were found dead Tuesday in Santiago, Nuevo Leon, by one of her brothers.

John and Wanda graduated to be with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as their lives were suddenly taken in a home invasion.

Despite his background as a liberal street organizer, he campaigned on tax cuts and personal responsibility and preached that the government simply cannot be the answer to every problem. Republicans would have no choice but to go along with an agenda to shrink the tax burden and get the federal government out of our everyday lives.

Instead, Mr. Obama has devoted his administration to raising taxes, adding to the byzantine structure of the federal government, and has created a whole new massive bureaucracy he claims really will cure our every little boo-boo.

As for the rest of the world, Mr. Obama promised to devote himself to healing the grave injustices and halting the atrocities that have afflicted the world since the rise of radical, violent jihadism. With his Muslim roots, Mr. Obama was positioned better than any leader on the global stage to speak with authority to radical Islamists and finally bring about permanent peace.

Instead, Mr. Obama chose to unilaterally alienate perhaps our most strategically important ally in the world and do all he can to cozy up to the very people who are dedicated to destroying not only Israel, but America as well.
